Pancha-Dvara Viti

(Mental process at the five sense doors)

17 citta moments (Rupa lasts as long as seventeen moments of citta)

Kamajavana-vara Viti (Mental process in relation to sense objects)

1.    Tadārammaṇa-Vāra Viti (Ati-Mahantā rammana) - Very Large object
Bp  Bv   Ba  P  Dv   Sp   St  V J   J   J  J   J   J   J  T   T (in young Babies & unconscious ppl, the hadaya-vatthu is weak &, accordingly, kāma-javana arises 5/6 times)

2.    Javana-Vāra Viti (Mahantā rammana) - Large object
Two types of processes are possible:
Bp  Bp          Bv    Ba  P  Dv   Sp  St  V   J   J   J   J   J   J   J   B   (in young Babies & unconscious ppl, the hadaya-vatthu is weak &, accordingly, kāma-javana arises 5/6 times)
Bp   Bp   Bp   Bv    Ba   P   Dv   Sp  St   V   J   J   J   J   J   J   J

3.    Vottapana-Vāra Viti (Parittā rammana)- Small object
Six types of processes are possible (more and more bhavaṅgas pass, before the object enters and the mind becomes active, but no more javanas arise):
Bp  Bp   Bp   Bp Bv    Ba    P   Dv   Sp   St   V   V    V   B   B   B   B
Bp    Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp        Bv    Ba    P   Dv   Sp   St   V   V    V   B   B    B
Bp    Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp    Bv    Ba    P   Dv   Sp   St   V   V    V   B   B
Bp    Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp  Bp Bv    Ba    P   Dv   Sp   St   V   V    V   B
Bp    Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp  Bv    Ba    P   Dv   Sp   St   V   V    V
Bp    Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp   Bp Bv    Ba    P   Dv   Sp   St   V   V

4.    Mogha-Vāra Viti  (Ati-Parittā rammana) - Very Small object
Six types of processes are possible (only passive states of mind with vibrating bhavaṅga arise after 10 to 15 bhavaṅgas passed):
Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp  Bv    Bv    B    B    B    B    B
Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp  Bv    Bv    B    B    B    B
Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bv    Bv    B    B    B
Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp  Bv    Bv    B    B
Bp    Bp    Bp     Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp Bv    Bv    B
Bp     Bp    Bp     Bp    Bp   Bp    Bp     Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp    Bp   Bp    Bp Bv    Bv

It may also happen that the Bp is succeeded by the Bv, which is 'disturbed' by the object, but that the rupa then falls away. In that case there is no Ba. The stream of bhavanga-cittas is not interrupted and the sense-door process cannot start. Sound may, for example, impinge on the ear sense and then the Bp is succeeded by the Bv. However, the Ba does not arise and thus the current of bhavanga-cittas is not interrupted and the ear-door process cannot start. In that case the sound cannot be heard.
