On Sunday 18 April 2004, B.D.C. (Upwey) Ltd. Life Member Rodney Johnson was ordained as a Novice Monk by Master Ru Sun at the Yun Yang Temple in Narre Warren.

A number of relatives, Members and friends attended the ceremony. The ceremony commenced at 10.00 am. Following chanting, Master Ru San stated all of the vows that Rodney would have to follow, asking him after the recitation of each, whether he would be able to keep that vow.

Next, he asked Rodney three times whether he was going to become a Monk of his own free will.

Master Ru Sun then addressed Rodney¹s parents, asking them if they consented to Rodney¹s decision to become a Monk at the Yun Yang Temple. He then encouraged them to offer some words to Rodney, saying that this was their last opportunity to speak to him as their parents, because once he became a Monk, he would be subject to the instructions of his new Master.

In full view of all those attending, the new novice Monk had his head shaved by a long time follower at the Yun Yang Temple.

His new name is Master Zen E Kun Hsin, meaning "number one in compassion", and "the nature of emptiness". Please address him as "Master E" or "Master".

A total of about 100 guests ate lunch together at the Temple, after which followers made offerings to Master Ru Sun and the Monks and Nuns of Yun Yang Temple, including daily necessities and Chinese study materials. Dr. Jane Zhang, doctor of Chinese medicine, has said that Master E¹s Chinese is improving rapidly.

We all wish Master E great blessings and happiness in his life as a Monk.
